Learning to Breathe Under Water

COMING SOON

Leo is eight, curious, wise and full of imagination. His best friend is a massive shark—half sculpture, half myth—that crashed through the roof of his house one night when his dad, Peter, gave shape to what he couldn’t say out loud.

Leo’s world is full of questions: why do grown-ups act so strangely? Where did Mum go five years ago? And will Dad ever come down from the clouds—or at least remember to do the shopping? Peter’s either buried in big, bonkers art projects or barely speaking, so Leo daydreams vividly and shares his secrets with the shark, who might just be listening but can’t speak back.

Then Anya bursts into their lives: a spirited au pair with her own questions to shatter the silence and answers more honest than Leo has ever heard before. Her fearless warmth and energy brings back colour to their world and uplifts their lives.

Learning to Breathe Underwater, directed by Rebekah Fortune, has been selected for the 2025 GREAT 8 showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. This prestigious programme champions eight emerging UK filmmakers, presenting exclusive first-look footage to international buyers and festival programmers at the Cannes Film Festival. Now in its eighth year, GREAT 8 is produced by the BFI and British Council with support from BBC Film and Film4. The film joins a standout slate of bold new voices shaping the future of British cinema.

Kneecap

There are 80,000 native Irish speakers in Ireland. 6,000 live in the North of Ireland. Three of them became a rap group called Kneecap. This anarchic Belfast trio become unlikely figureheads of a civil rights movement to save their mother tongue.

Kneecap premiered at Sundance in 2024, where it won the Audience Award: NEXT and was sold to Sony Pictures Classics. After releasing globally in Summer 2024, Kneecap won seven BIFAs including Best British Independent Film. It has also been shortlisted for 2 Academy awards, including Best International feature, and seven BAFTA Awards, including Best Film.

God’s Own Country

Spring. Yorkshire. Young farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path.

God’s Own Country won awards at Sundance, Berlin, Edinburgh, Galway, Stockholm, Chicago and many more. Winner of 4 BIFAs, 1 BAFTA Nomination, Best Film at the Evening Standard Awards, Best British Film at the Empire Awards. It was the highest-grossing UK debut of 2017.

Await Further Instructions

Critics Pick in the New York Times and winner of six awards including the Audience Award at Cinepocalypse and the New Visions Award at Trieste Science+Fiction Film Festival. ‘Await Further Instructions’ has played at over 20 festivals and has been sold to many countries worldwide.
