Dermot O'Dempsey is an Irish Creative Producer who works as Development Producer at Shudder Films. He is an alumnus of the BFI's Creative Producer Lab, BAFTA Connect, Doc Society's RISE Programme and, more recently, Less Is More's Development Angel Programme. Dermot holds a BA in English Literature & Creative Writing from Newcastle University, where he was awarded the School of English Language and Literature Scholarship to study a Master's degree in Creative Writing in 2018.

He first worked with Shudder Films in 2022 on the short film LOST ONES, before joining the production team on feature film KNEECAP, which stars the rap trio Kneecap alongside Michael Fassbender. The film won the Audience Award: NEXT at Sundance in 2024, before going on to win the BAFTA for Best Debut Feature, seven BIFAs and four IFTAs.

Dermot is Associate Producer on LEARNING TO BREATHE UNDER WATER, a heartfelt comedy-drama directed by Rebekah Fortune, financed by Screen Ireland, UK Global Screen Fund, Ffilm Cymru, the Netherlands Film Fund, starring Rory Kinnear and Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova; and DAUGHTER OF EDEN, a suspenseful drama by debut writer-director Fateme Ahmadi, financed by the BFI, BBC Film, Screen Ireland and Civic Studios, starring Yasmin Al-Khudhairi, Hiam Abbass, Amir El-Masry and Lindsay Duncan.

Dermot co-produced SOMETHING FAMILIAR, a revelatory documentary debut from Rachel Tarpajan, supported by BFI Doc Society. The film won the Chicken & Egg Vision Award at Cannes Docs 2025, had its world premiere in Competition at CPH:DOX in 2026, and won the New Talent Award at Biografilm in 2026.

Prior to joining Shudder Films, Dermot worked as a freelance creative producer and production manager across a range of mediums including broadcast television, animation, commercials, music videos and short films. During this time, he produced several short dramas, including GIANTS, supported by BFI NETWORK and FilmHub North, which premiered at Leeds International Film Festival and won Best Screenplay at Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2025 and the North East Recognition Award at Sunderland Shorts 2026; and MILKGUM, supported by BFI NETWORK and Screen Scotland, which premiered at Glasgow Short Film Festival in 2024.
